SPECIES
Bos gaurus
FATRO "WILDLIFE" COLLECTION 2011
The gaur is one of the largest of wild cattle: up to 220 cm high at the withers, it can reach one ton in weight.
In spite of its size, it moves with a certain agility, living in the forests of India, Nepal, Burma and Indochina and it is also found on mountains up to 2.000 metres high.
The species is greatly threatened by illegal hunting, by the destruction of its habitat and by diseases transmitted by other cattle species.
