The markhor (Capra falconeri) is a large species of wild goat, widespread in north-eastern Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and in the southern regions of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The species is considered to be endangered, as fewer than 2500 animals remain, a number which is still declining.
It is the national animal of Pakistan.
