November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
For several years, FATRO has been promoting awareness initiatives on violence against women within its facilities. Large-scale images and installations provide the backdrop for a collective reflection on this tragic and persistent social issue.
In the company’s gardens stands a sculpture created by artist Giuliano Melioli: ten pairs of red shoes resting on a shattered mirror, itself placed upon a large stone.
The shoes, entirely handcrafted in glossy, deep red glazed ceramic, are reflected in the mirror with the sky as their background. Yet, at the same time, they remain anchored to the stone - almost imprisoned - symbolically suspended between heaven and earth.
Behind each shoe lies a story: some tell of dreams, creativity, beauty, and passion; others speak of abandonment, violence, and loss - the stories of those who are no longer here.
The work is inspired by the Mexican artist Elina Chauvet, who was the first to use red shoes as a powerful symbol against femicide. Since then, this visual sign has become a universal emblem of protest and resistance against violence toward women, with countless representations around the world.
Violence and abuse remain the reflection of a society that, even today, struggles to stand with determination against every injustice committed toward women.
